CMJ 2006. Aka the year I dressed like a Beastie Boy.

This will be my fifth consecutive year of CMJ Madness. Show going is great but the pre-blog coverage of CMJ is equally enjoyable. Perhaps my most favorite pre-CMJ post comes from Bumpershine. Every year they try to compile every single CMJ flyer – epic.

As for which bands you should look out for this year, take note of where these guys (actually most of them are girls!) are playing: San Francisco’s Tamaryn, New Zealand’s Zowie, Tampa’s Dominique Young Unique, New York’s Marnie Stern and Brooklyn’s OBERHOFER.

Here are my most anticipated showcases:

Guaranteed good time showcases are Fader Fort and Pure Volume House.

Best dance party showcase is Stereogum.

Funniest showcase is Conflict of Interest.

What’s hot in electronic pop showcase is Manifest Airwaves.

Free booze and/or bands that might blow up in six months showcases are Filter Magazine, I rock I roll, and The Hype Machine.

Looking to snag your professional nighttime photo showcase is NickyDigital.
