Art Basel 2009 Recap

Posted in art, events, travel by tipo on December 9, 2009

1. Art Basel as a single fair was disappointing. Galleries whipped out their recession-safe Picasso, Lichtenstein, Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain, Cindy Sherman, and Jeff Koons works. The most noteworthy artist was Evan Penny, please check him out!

2. Pulse Art Fair had a hot set up. It was held in the Design District of Miami, which is equivalent to NYC’s Bushwick. An art troupe from Austin, TX created a fantasy quickie mart that could have been strait out of Jay And Silent Bob.

3. The Rubell Family Collection was impressive. Major downtown artists – Nate Lowman, Barbara Kruger, Andy Warhol, Haruki Murakami – reappropriated popular works.

4. The parties. Easy door. Free booze. Free music. If only the cabs weren’t so damn expensive.
